NICO SORIN - ELECTRONIC PIAZZOLLA
2nd FUNCTION:
Doors: 10:00 p.m.
Show: 10:30 p.m.
After a stunning premiere at the legendary Auditorio Nacional (CCK), he has toured various venues throughout Argentina and Buenos Aires City, one of which is the iconic Niceto Club, where he has been performing to packed houses month after month. And after touring Mexico, appearing at the renowned MIMO Festival in Brazil, the Teatro Nescafe in Chile, Sala Zitarrosa in Uruguay, the Festival de la Hispanidad in Spain, and the WOMAD Festival in Chile, composer Nico Sorín continues his tribute to the great Astor Piazzolla, reinterpreting parts of Astor's work with his electronic ensemble.
The repertoire is based on the octet's 1977 concert at the Olympia in Paris, with songs such as Libertango, Meditango, Zita, Adiós Nonino, and Violentango. Based on transcriptions by Sorín, the arrangements of the songs, and the selection of musicians from different genres and styles, this project explores Astor's spirit at that time, highlighting the energy of his rock-tinged music.
As Sorín himself says:
“The first time I heard Astor's electronic octet, it reminded me of the rock spirit of bands like Deep Purple and Pink Floyd. When it came to reworking the great maestro, the word that came to mind was 'irreverence.' I believe there has never been a more irreverent artist than Piazzolla, and with that premise and the respect his music deserves, I put together a group of seven irreverent artists to pay tribute to him.”
